Business Behind Health at Duke was inspired by Co-Founders Gabrielle Perry and Ella Etchandy. While both shared a passion and commitment towards driving change in the health industry, Gabby is a Program II scholar pursing the Reconstruction of Well-being, and Ella is a Biomedical Engineer - due to their different majors they never crossed paths or received the opportunity to collaborate. That was the case until the two met at Duke in Silicon Valley, an immersive experience offered by Duke’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship program. Inspired by the exciting, tech-driven startup world around them, the two were able to begin forming BBH.

BBH is Duke’s first organization focused on educating students about the health economy and encouraging exploration of diverse career paths within the health sector. While other student organizations provide healthcare resources, none explicitly encourage cross-major and cross-sector collaboration. As seen through Gabby and Ella’s case, although they shared many common interests and passions, there was a barrier blocking them from collaboration- we aim to break down this barrier for all students. BBH uniquely integrates business, technology, and healthcare, ensuring students from all backgrounds can meaningfully contribute to the future of health.
